Meet the Counsellor
April is a compassionate, trauma informed Counsellor who brings warmth and understanding to the therapeutic process and creates safe spaces for healing and self-exploration.
With a passion for helping others, April began her career supporting vulnerable members of the community across the community sector, in a variety of roles mostly within child, youth and family settings.
In 2017 April achieved her Bachelor of Counselling, focusing on developmental psychology and working with children and young people.
After many years experience supporting children, young people and families, April began working in the child protection and domestic and family violence spaces- where her skills connecting with people in crisis and supporting them through some of their most traumatic experiences, allowed her significant insight into complex family and relationship dynamics and a non-judgmental approach to all people, regardless of their backgrounds and experiences.
In 2023 April joined The Survivor Hub team by partnering with a local Sexual Assault Advocate, to bring the first trauma informed, peer lead support group for people who have experienced sexual assault to the Central Coast.
In her career as a mental health practitioner, April has sought further training and education to provide inclusive services that are welcoming and supportive for the LGBTQIA+ community, which allows her insight into the unique challenges and biases many people in this community experience.
After working within the community and private sectors providing counselling, April developed ‘Progressive Counselling’ with the goal of creating an experience for her clients that was welcoming, trauma informed and inclusive from start to finish.
I can’t wait to meet you and am honoured by each person who has allowed me space in their lives, shared with me their vulnerabilities, their most challenging and painful experiences and put their trust in me as part of their healing journey.
